Evensong at St Mary’s

Last term we visited St Mary’s Church for Evensong and it was so well received it’s been decided we’ll do it each term.

Chris arranged for us to have a guest conductor, the Assistant Director of Music from Bath Abbey, Shawn Bowers. It’s really interesting watching and learning from different conductors and understanding their interpretation of the music. We had a rehearsal before the service and learned lots of new things from our conductor, while Chris played the organ.

Before the service I played the organ voluntary, with Chris making sure everything was set for me. It’s the organ I played my first concert piece on. It was nice to play it again but I don’t find it easy to play.

During the service, we sang four choir pieces, six psalms and of course the usual Evensong music too. It’s great to be able to sing it in a local church for the congregation who support us every week.

I’m now in half term and am looking forward to our choir visit to Hereford next Saturday!
