This morning we enjoyed a two hour rehearsal for the Good Friday and Easter Sunday service. The choir family really comes together on these special occasions and we enjoy a relaxed time with friends after practice while eating lunch in one if the choir members homes. Today we were in the garden enjoying the beautiful sunshine.
The Good Friday service is very solemn with appropriate hymns and anthems, ‘Were you there?’ and ‘Ave verum corpus’. Both beautiful and both poignant. During the service a cross is carried through the church and placed in front of the altar, then members of the choir and congregation pause for a moment in front of it, some kissing it, some touching it and some bowing. It’s really quite moving.
The service ended, as last night, in silence, as we left with our own thoughts of today.
As much as I love these services and all they represent, I can’t wait for Sunday and some joyous music!
