I’ve had a fabulous weekend of music making! I left school early on Friday afternoon to head to Gillingham for a rehearsal on the organ ahead of my recital. Everything went really well and it was good to run through the pieces on the pipe organ and to see my name in the poster again (can you tell I’m rather proud of that?!).
On Saturday I headed to Bath Abbey to hear Roger Sayer play a recital. I have to say all the music was not to my taste (I might have been secretly hoping for a bit of Interstellar!), but it was a fabulous recital and really well attended!
Sunday morning saw the whole choir back together again at St John’s Church for the first time this term. It was good to be back ‘home’ and with Mr Totney. We were celebrating harvest. It’s a little early I know, but we have the Choir Festival in Salisbury coming up and our Radio 4 broadcast, so the choir are not quite on normal schedules at the moment. It was lovely to see the church decorated with the autumn colours, but even better to meet Mr Totney’s new baby daughter who came to the service!
As if all that wasn’t enough, in the evening I went back to Bath, this time to Christ Church to hear David Briggs improvise to Dr Jeykill and Mr Hyde. It was the most incredible 1.5 hours of organ playing I’ve heard. What an awesome talent. I could watch silent movies all the time with music accompaniment like that!
All in all one very busy, very brilliant musical weekend!
