Storm Ciara hit on Sunday, but that didn’t stop St John’s Church choir taking part in two events in the afternoon.
Our first event was as part of the class winners concert from the Devizes Eisteddfod. We sang two pieces, the first being Locus Iste which I conducted. The second piece was ‘When to the Temple’, a favourite of ours. It was a varied, fun concert with some superb talent showcased and very warm atmosphere for all involved.
We then headed to St Peter’s Church for a Valentine’s Service.
It was packed with music including; This Marriage by Eric Whitacre, We Pledge to One Another and Come Down O Love Divine. I played the voluntary, to the surprise of some of the congregation who I knew from when I used to attend the church!
It’s a very different church to St John’s and part of the Diocese of Ebbsfleet. It is very high church including incense and bells rung at Communion services.
The weather didn’t dampen our spirits as we sung. Father Vincent said he didn’t think such music had been heard in the church for some time. They have a small choir, a couple of whom joined us for the service, but no children in it. Hopefully it won’t be long before we can join them again and make more joyous music.
